Dear friends and family,
I wanted to provide an update regarding the funeral procession and Celebration of Life for Nic. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to text me — my cell number is listed below.
Procession Details
Starting Location:
24996 189th Ave
Zwingle, IA 52079
Nic’s final ride and procession will begin from our home instead of the gas station. Please ensure your vehicle is fully fueled prior to arrival, as there will be no stops once we depart.
⚠️ The procession will leave from our home promptly at 12:00 PM CST.
Please plan to arrive early enough to park and get situated.
Due to limited space at our home, parking will be tight. I’ve included a small diagram at the end of this email to help guide you. While I have a general idea of how many motorcycles and cars are coming, please park as close to your designated area as possible to help keep everything orderly.
We strongly encourage everyone to join the procession from one of our two designated starting points:
- Our home: 24996 189th Ave, Zwingle, IA
- Buzzy’s Bar: 414 Main St, Welton, IA 52774
This is important because vehicles in the official procession will be escorted through Rock Island Arsenal without needing to stop for base security protocols. If you do not join the procession at one of these two locations, you will be required to go through standard base security and background checks at the main entrance, which may cause significant delays entering the cemetery grounds.
Procession Guidelines
- Motorcycles will lead the procession at all times.
If a motorcycle ends up behind you, please safely pull to the right and allow them to move ahead — this is for everyone’s safety. - Only vehicles joining from the two approved locations will be permitted in the procession. Each vehicle will receive a marker for the windshield to identify you to law enforcement. If you do not join the procession at one of these two locations, you will be required to go through standard base security and background checks at the main entrance, which may cause significant delays entering the cemetery grounds.
- The procession will be led by the Patriot Guard and escorted by:
- Jackson County Sheriff’s Department
- Clinton County Sheriff’s Department
- Scott County Sheriff’s Department
- Davenport Police Department
- Safety Reminder: The funeral procession will be accompanied by a police escort. Please ensure intersections are clear and safe before proceeding, but stay with the procession at all times. Turn on your hazard lights and remain in formation throughout.
- Procession Route: If please click HERE for the entire procession route.
Celebration of Life
The Celebration of Life for Nic will take place at 2:00 PM at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois, immediately following the procession. The ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes.
We are honored that the Navy is bring in a Full Honor Guard to include:
- A 21-gun salute
- A ceremony led by a Navy Chaplain
- A live performance of “Taps” by a bugler
The first pew will be reserved for Carrie, Amber, and Missy.
This solemn ceremony is a tribute to Nic’s life, service, and sacrifice. Your presence and support mean the world to us, and we hope you’ll join us in honoring him.
Final Resting Place
After the interment ceremony has concluded, the procession will move about 100 yards within Rock Island National Cemetery. We are grateful that the cemetery has granted me the honor of personally placing Nic into his final resting place. This does not normally happen as they usually place the remains and seal the columbarium wall.
This final step is deeply personal and intimate — and due to space limitations, only four individuals will be allowed in the immediate area. We kindly ask that everyone else remain with their vehicles during this time out of respect and safety. Once this final step is complete, the entire procession will exit Rock Island Arsenal together. The procession will officially conclude once all vehicles have exited the installation.
Dinner Reception
Following the ceremony, dinner will be provided free of charge at the American Legion in honor of Nic:
American Legion Post 26
702 W 35th St
Davenport, IA 52806
We’ll be serving a few of Nic’s favorite meals:
- Tacos
- Spaghetti
- Three salads
- And of course, chocolate chip cookies
Please join us as we continue to celebrate Nic’s life, share memories, and support one another.
